At South Mississippi’s premier marine education and conservation center, visitors of all ages will be engaged in a fun, hands-on learning experience that will help to understand and appreciate the species that make our Gulf Coast waters unique. NEW! Animal Adventures: There are a variety of Animal Adventures at CMER. Students will experience one of several animal encounters where reptiles star in an informative affair and tropical birds entertain. In the Dolphin Presentation, visitors will see Bottlenose Dolphins, Bo and Buster, work with their trainers and interact with other guests while learning and hearing about these intelligent and graceful animals from trained IMMS staff. Museum: Explore 2,000 square feet of interactive exhibits and life-size replicas of sea creatures. Sift through the sand for a shark tooth and identify the species. Admire the marine-inspired local art and analyze artifacts. Discovery Room: Encounter the touch pools. Touch stingrays or cow-nose rays, and get “up close and personal” with horseshoe crabs, sea stars, and other marine animals. Observe various saltwater, brackish and freshwater fish, invertebrates, frogs, and marsh turtles in aquariums. Auditorium: Experience an underwater adventure on the big screen. Short documentaries are shown daily in our 180-seat auditorium. We will also dig for fossils and rescue a stranded “dolphin”! Picnic facilities are on-site for those wishing to bring a lunch to enjoy after the adventure.
